The Alamo http://www.thealamo.org The most famous site in Texas saw 189 defenders—including Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie—fall to Mexican general and president Santa Anna’s army on March 6, 1836, after a grueling siege. Some 600 Mexican soldiers were killed during the battle. All that remains of the original Alamo fort are the Long Barrack and a chapel (Mission San Antonio de Valero), though the Long Barrack Museum and Library houses relics and mementos from the Republic of Texas.
San Antonio Riverwalk http://www.thesanantonioriverwalk.com Enjoy some of downtown San Antonio’s best art and gift shops, live music venues, boutiques, sidewalk cafes and fine restaurants at the Riverwalk. You can take a half-hour scenic cruise aboard one of the riverboats, or you can catch one of the many San Antonio events, shows and parades that are held along the river. To be sure, great shows like Shamu Visions and Viva! at White Whale and Dolphin Stadium always draw big crowds. And if that’s not enough, the park also features a three-story, interactive funhouse for kids, the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses, Dolphin Cove and the 4-D attraction “R. L. Kids have their choice of rides made just for them, and the whole park is set in a limestone quarry with 100-foot cliffs soaring overhead!
Ripley's Believe It or Not!® and the Plaza Theatre of Wax http://www.ripleys.com/bion/sanant.html Over 500 oddities, artifacts and downright weird objects from Robert Ripley’s bizarre collection are on display at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum. Featured items include the world’s smallest painting, a hand-carved 1000-piece miniature circus, and… authentic dinosaur eggs? The site also includes the Plaza Wax Museum, with lifelike figures from Hollywood, history, horror and more.
